We started our day with a fantastic breakfast at the hotel. I chose the vegetarian omelet. Coffee and bread was served. At 5€, it’s hard to think of a time when I experienced better value. Slovakia is the place to make your dollars stretch.
Shortly into the first leg of our journey, I felt a dreaded sloppiness in my back wheel. Sure enough, the air was on the way out. Many times I’ve changed a flat and never found the offending debris in the tire. Last night, I couldn’t find the reason for the flat.
While changing it this time, I found the culprit. A small piece of hard metal, not unlike a pin, had pushed its way in. After using my last tube and adjusting the brakes, we listened to the song "Blasphemous Rumours" by Depeche Mode. All was forgotten. Note to self - LOOK more closely.
The remainder of the day went smoothly. The temperature has, thankfully, dropped dramatically. Spirits are high.
Isaac’s pedal crank is making noise. More on that later.
Crossing the bridge into Esztergom, we exited Slovakia and entered Hungary. We all obtained forints (Hungarian money).
The one exception was a stretch of road outside Esztergom on the way to the ferry. There were several drivers who could have certainly given our group more room. Can the average person handle the power and responsibility of an automobile?
We took a left turn off the busy route and found a restaurant by the ferry. I was overwhelmed when Snelling purchased a hot dog and paid for one myself. By the time I was handed the item, we were late for the boat. I coasted down the hill, dog in hand, to the awaiting barge. I ate on the crossing.
On the north side of the river, we cycled a distance to the campsite we had picked previously, stopping only for a quick beverage mid trip.
The campsite we are currently enjoying is located on the shore overlooking two Hungarian castles.
My ears are so plugged up with water from the river, why wear earplugs?
