Wednesday’s focus was wandering the capital. The only major plan we had was to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art.
After breakfast, Kelley grabbed a tourist map; he and Issac do not have access to cell data in Serbia.
We took a decent walk to the other side of the river, only to find the museum we had planned to visit closed. I’ve seen many classic art pieces, having hit major museums in different countries. I’m particularly drawn, at this time, to contemporary / modern museums. This was a real bust. I had my heart set on this opportunity, but the fact that it was shut was a good reminder to go with the flow.
We found a restaurant on the Danube that had a picture view of Belgrade Fortress. Three liters of lemonade were shared. When life gives you lemons...
We wandered uptown around a Bohemian area, had dinner then did a little more exploring as a group. Kelley headed back to the apartment; Isaac and I continued to explore on foot until two o’clock in the morning.
I love to wander.
I will mention that the club scene on the Danube is something to behold. Large club boats line the riverside, equipped with fantastic sound systems. On a Wednesday night, there were a surprising number of people enjoying the experience. This evening, we took more of a fly-on-the-wall approach to the scene. If there were 80’s hits bumping from one of the boats, I couldn’t have resisted.
A dog followed us back across the bridge.
Thursday was a day for each of us to explore solo. I spent my structured time at the Serbian National Museum, enjoying the prehistoric past exhibit and the classic artwork on display.
I wandered the city, found a shirt at a Serbian handicraft store and took a nap under a oak tree by the fortress.
The shirt has a bicycle pump on it.
