It seems that I forgot one essential item for this trip - a strobe light for my tent.
As midnight approaches, a nearby restaurant, affiliated with the campsite, is pumping "I’m So Excited" by the Pointer Sisters. A man is interrupting the song to say something in Serbian to the crowd. It may be the results of the beauty contest that was held earlier...
We got a pretty early start today. The first twenty kilometers were on dirt and grass. If you add heat and a moonlike surface of potholes, you will well understand the joy we experienced on this famous cycling route.
Serbian love was encountered in the town of Juzno-Banatski. A broken conversation consisting of bombs (with a whistling sound), famous cities and the number two million was had between Kelley and a Serbian sweetheart of a man. Language barriers can be both high and strong.
Close to a ferry landing, we met a Swiss family of five cycling to the Black Sea. I was astounded at the strength of the group as they passed me early on. They don’t own a car; the kids cycle to school and dad bicycles 70 kilometers to work. These are true believers.
After arriving at camp, we paid the equivalent of four euros, set up our tents and took a long swim in the Danube. A shower, dinner and, like I said above, a beauty contest followed.
