Heat.

We left our wild camp spot at about 9:45 this morning, just a little low on water. Sure enough, we were met with a 20+ mile stretch of dikes with no end.

Finally, we reached a formidable dam, crossed partway and were pointed in the direction of a small restaurant. We all ordered the chicken and rice with goulash. Later, I drank three liters of carbonated water and had an ice cream cone. Something may be wrong with my brain.

Just outside the restaurant, a small park offered us shade for 4.5 hours. There was, really, nothing else we could do. The heat pushed over ninety degrees, too hot for cycling. There are record temperatures here in Europe.

After a bit of reading and sleeping, we got back to it at around five thirty in the afternoon. Our first leg to Medved’ov was straight forward. We had a bite and a brew at a local pub. The options were limited, but the paninis were passable. The woman behind the bar was very kind to four travelers who do not speak any Slovakian. Isaac and Kelley offered me chips. I arranged the pillows on the seats before leaving. I’m trying to build good karma after losing a Mars Bar wrapper several days ago.

The final leg of the journey was tough. Most of the dike path was freshly torn up; the gravel was often too soft to cycle on. Charlie took a spill.

To make matters worse, we had to contend with what seemed an infinite amount of mosquitoes. These were definitely coming from the stagnant bogs in the area. My hit points started at 100. I was down to 15 after the attack. Do you know how to dance on a bicycle while on loose gravel?

It got to the point where we abandoned the EV6 for a road that led to the small town of Kližska Nemá.

We’re currently camped along the shoreline of a lake with houses all around. If a person looks sharp, they could pretty easily see us from the road. I’m convinced we will pull this off.

I was able to skinny dip a bath before climbing into the tent.

There are dogs here who enjoy barking.
