We started the morning with leftovers from the bakery. Kelley brewed some rich coffee. With all of the espresso and Turkish style I’ve had on this trip, most of what I am used to in the States seems sissy. In most cases, I’m drinking grounds. The weird thing is, I like it.
Before leaving Bač, we walked around the famous fortress just outside of town. According to the literature, there was much bloodshed on the spot. Men have been at war for too long. The fantastic cost in human labor and life is astounding. Peace.
After exploring, we rode for over forty kilometers to Backa Palanka. The German couple we met previously were there. We chatted about the route and watched the women’s Wimbledon final (Simona Halep of Romania defeated Serena Williams of the United States).
Not having looked at a screen for the last month has been freeing. Advertisements flicker in a way that put me on edge.
Days are coming at a pleasant pace. There’s a rhythm to the day that keeps me in a settled dream state.
It started raining shortly after we arrived in town. Later, lightening flashed and the skies opened. We thought it best to anchor down a place outside of town, ultimately finding beds for under 14€.
If all goes well, we may be able to enter Belgrade by Monday. No rush, really.
