I had set my alarm for seven o’clock last night to prompt an early rise. There really wasn’t a choice, as the sun was already heating the inside of my tent by that time.
I took off early and dropped a pin for the guys to find me at a bakery in town. Kelley joined me shortly after, and we loaded up on calories.
Isaac had slept in, and we later found out that he had a flat tire. He solved the issue with some Serbian help, meeting us later in the evening.
This day was exclusively on pavement. Much of the cycling was with a with a manageable amount of cars.
We picked up a dog for a little stretch, right at the beginning of the "Iron Gates" of the Danube. He was pretty tired out following us, but seemed to enjoy the company for the stretch.
Cycling through the "Iron Gates" gorge has been, quite frankly, amazing.
Some of the tunnels today (10+) were a little trying. Lengths topped 250 meters. When there’s a bend, it’s pitch dark - time to perch my sunglasses on the tip of my nose and pray. If a truck enters the space, it’s three hundred sixty degree sound. Luckily, there’s always a little light at the end of the tunnel.
After eight kilometers, we found a reasonable place to stay in Donji Milanovac. A tasty dinner was followed by a Danube dip.
The shower door didn’t seal, creating a more dangerous situation on the tiles than the aforementioned tunnels.
Addendum: A waiter ripped us off on lemonade.
