I woke quite early this morning, a first on the trip. After packing, I cycled out of the campsite and to a small bakery on the Main Street is town. Later, all of the group members assembled and had their fill of pastries. We played a bit of hacky sack until a kind woodworker informed us that we could potentially wake a sleeping baby.
The ride into Budapest was better than I expected. It’s always difficult entering a heavily populated area on a bicycle, especially when everything’s new.
I felt quite safe on the provided sidewalks and bike paths.
Upon entering the city, we took a rest at a cafe and connected to WiFi. I was able to find a very reasonable Airbnb for three nights in a social area of town. With the four of us sharing the cost, we each paid under $12 per night.
Without too much strife, we found the flat, locked the bikes in the courtyard and set up for our stay. Breakfast items were purchased for the next two days at a grocery store (Spar) just down the street. It amounted to under three euros for each of the two mornings. I also picked up soap and toothpaste.
Kelley, who was celebrating his forty-third birthday, chose Vietnamese food for dinner. Delicious!
We then checked out the nightlife in the "Ruin" area. This included meeting a Brit named Simon and visiting Instant, a labyrinthine dance club. I soaked bits of paper towels and placed them in my ears.
We stayed until 4:00 AM.
