We were up and out at a reasonable time this morning. When that sun starts heating the inside of your tent, there’s nothing to do but get out and roll.
Heading back into Basel, our main objective was to check the tourist office for maps. Before leaving, I had France covered and the Danube section starting in Germany. The route between Switzerland and the headwaters of the Danube was a question mark. Call me unprepared, but willing to work these matters out on the fly.
Arriving at the information center without mishap, we were pointed in the direction of a nearby bookstore. Eureka! The maps, although a bit costly, were ours!
Note: When traveling, trust that all needs will be met at precisely the right time. Patience is paramount.
The cycling today was the most urban, as a whole, that we have seen. Instead of consistent waterways, we meandered through small towns. Summary: industry, road work, concrete, trains, cars, noise...
Take heart! This is just a transition to the fabled Danube. With a bit of pedaling, we may reach it in the next couple of days.
Prices in Switzerland are steep, at least a third more than in France. Travelers take note.
After swimming in the Rhine, we cycled a short distance and free camped on the river.
Germany can be seen on the far bank. A nuclear plant is immediately behind us. I wonder if I’ll wake as a toad...
I am utterly in awe of your tour! I makes my day you two!!
