Today, the canals and locks of the Loire were a reminder of human ingenuity. We encountered several pleasure boats motoring upstream. Passing them on the bike trail, we smiled and waved.
When all else is closed in these French riverside towns, there is always the humble Kebab restaurant. After fueling frequently with fries, I’m bound and determined to eat more salads at these ubiquitous establishments. As our wheels spin round, so does the chicken on the kebab skewer.
For midday snacks, Kelley and I have moved toward purchasing quantities of fruits and vegetables at small grocery stores. These inexpensive, healthy foods do not cause the heaviness of bread and offer a prolonged energy. Sometimes it takes prolonged life on the cycle to solidify the obvious.
We pulled into La Charite sur Loire with plenty of daylight remaining. The campsite was another joy, as it offered the standard shower, flat tent accommodations and WiFi. After cleaning up, we charged our electronics. I downloaded more music (Bowie, 80’s compilations) and we researched the road ahead.
I’m reaching the point where the cycling becomes effortless.
I need to find a peace flag.
On this day we experienced another vortex on the Loire. (This took place at the "charging-center" photo above.)
ReplyDeleteThis is all wonderful stuff to read about when you're chained to work in July! Great pictures and experiences, a great record of the experience and even a little bit of cycling philosophy in there as well, such as the key realisation that apples are better than bread when you're riding bikes :-) I'll be reading the updates with interest and feeling very envious! Good luck and have fun, Kelley and Nels!
