Germany!
Rain was in the forecast. Due to this fact, we did our cycling in the morning and afternoon, arriving at the Wahlwies campsite at about five o’clock. Dark rain clouds hovered overhead. We set up tents quickly. There’s a tangible feeling of peace when your tent’s up, especially when weather is threatening.
Once today, we became really stumped as to the EV6 route progression. The signs just seemed to stop. We retraced our path. Sure enough, a German man approached us on his cycle. He took a look at our map, then personally led us to the route. This has happened several times over the last three weeks. Let go; trust the universe.
This was a day to handle laundry. The campsite we slipped into, thankfully, offered this service. Have you experienced the satisfaction of knowing you have a weeks worth of freshly cleaned clothes in your bag when far from home?
This being our first day in Germany, we headed out to a local restaurant for a fine dining experience. We take these opportunities periodically. Two nights of free camping and eating grocery store food on park benches has to be balanced.
To our surprise, we met a German family of adults dining next to us. One man (name lost) offered us some of his unfinished meal to try.
Note (Important): We’re officially eating off of strangers’ plates.
The portion he offered was slow cooked beef, asparagus, carrots and pasta. Very delicious. Later, after an interesting conversation, (he’s a real foodie) he offered us a shot of Makers Mark whiskey. I found it rude to refuse.
I’m no fan of the drink. I put it away quickly, causing our gracious acquaintance to pause and look me in the face. I’m still learning proper behavior in Germany (and life, in general).
