Austria!
During the morning hours, we cycled about ten kilometers to Passau, a German tourist town at the crossroads of three rivers.
After cycling out to the point of the small peninsula, we wandered into the middle of town for a look around. It just so happened that an organ concert was about to start in the city’s cathedral. Interested, we purchased tickets and entered.
Note: Passau boasts the largest cathedral organ in the world.
After sitting down amongst many tourists, we listened to the thirty minute concert. At approximately ten minutes in, I noticed several heads begin to nod. As the fifteen minute mark passed, some chins had drooped to the sternums of their owners. In all honesty, I lost track of the middle piece, coming to after my body pivoted sharply down and toward the left side of the pew. A rousing finale prompted the straightening of backs.
Cycling again in the heat, we took a pit stop at a restaurant on the river. Launching after ninety minutes of sloth, we moved down the road, pausing again, before the campsite, for a cooling dip in the Danube.
Austria, so far, has been extremely beautiful. We cycled though a steeply wooded river canyon on our voyage to the campground.
The facility has more than met our needs: dinner, shower and spacious camping, right on the Danube. I’m very much looking forward to tomorrow’s ride.
Note: My sleeping situation for this trip includes a Thermarest pad and an inflatable Sea to Summit pillow (Seattle Seahawks pillow case lovingly crafted by Cake Bergquist).
