On Kelley’s suggestion, we started our morning at a small cafe nearly adjacent to the campsite. Paper lanterns, potted plants and pleasant people made this stop worthwhile.
The majority of the day was again spent traveling canals. Approaching two weeks of consistent cycling has resulted in a peace fantastic, a dreamlike flow that melts day into night. Doors are opening.
Nevers was closed. Literally. We cycled off route to reach an expected Eldorado, only to find a ghost town. Where we expected to find cycling maps, sunglasses and T-shirts, we acquired only fruit.
Should we live in a world of expectations?
The evening ended with a banana split.
Note: EuroVelo route signs have changed to a yellow starred circle with a blue background. The "Loire a Velo" graphic is a thing of the past.
