We weathered a total eclipse of motivation.
If I had to pick a title today, it would be "Lethargy". A combination of things cast a spell on us for the morning and afternoon hours of our ride. I felt like I was half dreaming. A tour affords a simple style of living, but it is not immune to life’s trials. I will say that the difficulties on tour are vanilla compared to those faced by people at the office.
On a day that I would have preferred to climb into the hop fields and snooze, we pushed on through the heat. A bicycle tour presents opportunities for finding peace in uncomfortable situations. Every time I slip into this lifestyle, I feel myself becoming a better person. What human experiences would prompt a sweeping change, making the world better?
Riding in the evening hours wakes the most exhausted cyclist. The temperature, by five o’clock, typically equals that of a stone lightly warmed by the mid-day sun. This is the time to pedal.
Long shadows point us eastward, the direction of our undecided destination. Birds have settled in and are relaxing after completing the day’s work. Families begin their final walks home, dogs at their sides. It not hard to find beauty and reasons to keep pedaling.
Winging along with this shared mentality, we pushed until the sun had set behind the hills. Kelley pointed out a suitable campsite with a bench by the Danube. We both set up our tents and headed to the water for a dip. I know that this lifestyle will be hard to leave.
Note: I exited my tent before midnight to view the lunar eclipse across the Danube River. Did this celestial circumstance impact the day’s ride?
Undoubtedly.
Put the bike on a skiff today in order to view a particularly impressive part of the Danube that couldn't have been seen from the bike route.
