Outside of the city, we climbed a sharp uphill into the eleventh century cave village of Souzay. This place is an example of what fantasy writers draw inspiration from. Walking around, I had the feeling that we had been transported to Tolkien’s Middle Earth. Can you imagine what places like this will be like with enhanced reality glasses? I should have downloaded Pokémon Go.
In Montsoreau, we tasted wine of the Loire Valley, then moved down the street to a packed bar for the World Cup match between Argentina and France. As the country’s team scored goals to stretch their lead, patrons in the establishment broke out in song. France advanced to the final eight and more games are undoubtedly in our future.
